The MoD Book Club

Event Date: May 13th, 2009 Time: 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Location: The Spoke Club 600 King Street West 4th Floor, Toronto ON

On May 13th MoD hosted its 4th quarterly book club with a great group of Mid to Senior level Marketers.  Don Tapscotts book, Grown Up Digital, proved a very compelling subject and discusses an issue that is top of mind for marketers... the changing way in which consumers behave, namely the shift to online, and what needs to happen in the marketing space.

We discussed the book in a recent review for Metro News:

The modern Institutions of days gone by are fast becoming lackluster and archaic systems of bureaucracy that are ultimately failing the largest generation, the net generation.  Prolific author, Don Tapscott’s newest book, Grownup Digital, a follow up to his first book on the topic, Growing up Digital, sizes up the first generation to grow up completely in the digital age. They grab new gadgets and immediately begin using it where as their parents will spend hours combing a manual and still be baffled using it.  To the cynical, this generation appears unfocused, antisocial, and A.D.D.  Tapscott wholly disagrees. A very refreshing perspective that now gives me a bit more peace of mind knowing how much time I already spend facebook and twittering.

All in all a fun night and definite excitement for Octobers book selection!

See you there

Best,
Marcie

SELECTED AS A 2008 BEST BUSINESS BOOK OF THE YEAR BY THE ECONOMIST.

The Net Generation Has Arrived.
Are you ready for it?

Chances are you know a person between the ages of 11 and 30. You've seen them doing five things at once: texting friends, downloading music, uploading videos, watching a movie on a two-inch screen, and doing who-knows-what on Facebook or MySpace. They’re the first generation to have literally grown up digital--and they’re part of a global cultural phenomenon that’s here to stay.

The bottom line is this: If you understand the Net Generation, you will understand the future.
If you're a Baby Boomer or Gen-Xer: This is your field guide.

A fascinating inside look at the Net Generation, Grown Up Digitalis inspired by a $4 million private research study. New York Timesbestselling author Don Tapscott has surveyed more than 11,000 young people. Instead of a bunch of spoiled ‘screenagers’ with short attention spans and zero social skills, he discovered a remarkably bright community which has developed revolutionary new ways of thinking, interacting, working, and socializing.
