3 Keys to Success (That You Can Actually Implement Every Day)

“What is the key to Success?”.  That is one loaded question.  Luckily, myself and an old mentor of mine had a real keep it simple mantra that precipitated 3 keys to success that you can employ every day, no matter your vocation:

1. Be a Great Student

No matter how good you are, you can always get better.  You can always learn.  No one is bigger than the game.  What do Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and all the best golfers in the world have in common?  They all have swing coaches: Random guys that could never beat them in a round of golf, but ones that can see what they can’t.  They relish that outside perspective— to get better— and they’re already the best in the world at what they do.

2. Be the Hardest Working Person You Know

If someone is ahead of you in the corporate pecking order, has more talent than you, or both, then just out work them.  That is the ultimate equalizer to level any playing field.

3. Have a Winning Attitude in Life

Not just at the office.  All the time.  You shouldn’t be ‘playing a part’ in the workplace.  You can’t be the Dr. Jekyll bubbly, happy-go-lucky employee until 5:00 and smash cut to Mr. Hyde at 5:03.  It doesn’t work that way. You will be challenged and encounter adversity.  More than once.  How will you handle it? Don’t be a whiner, complainer or poseur.

In short, use these three cliff note maxims day-to-day and aim to be the best at what you do.  Whatever that is: If you’re a lawyer, be the best lawyer at the firm.  If you’re a garbage man, be the best garbage man on the block.
